Dissociative Identity Disorder ( Mpd ) - 1813 Words
Dissociate Identity Disorder Marjorie Morales Troy University Dissociative identity disorder (DID), also known as multiple personality disorder (MPD), is still known today as one of the most controversial psychiatric diagnoses (Priya Siva, 2013). It indicates the existence of two or more identities or different personalities that repeatedly assumes control over the behavior of the person affected. In the majority of cases, dissociative identity disorder appears along with other symptoms, in which many times has been misdiagnosed (Ringrose, 2011). Repetitive childhood abuses are considered as the main cause of dissociative identity disorder (Fraser, 2014). The division of two or more identities can be understood asâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Dissociative identity disorder is characterized by the presence of two or more distinct identities or personality states that recurrently take control of the individualââ¬â¢s behavior, accompanied by an inability to recall important personal information that is too extensive to be explained by ordinar y forgetfulness (Ringrose, 2011). It is a disorder characterized by identity fragmentation, rather than proliferation of separate personalities (Fraser, 2014). Many people equate colloquially dissociative identity disorder and schizophrenia in a wrong way (Priya Siva, 2013). While in the case of schizophrenia can both be identification with another person within the framework of a megalomaniac in the identity disorder dissociative exist two or more personalities in a person (Priya Siva, 2013). A person with dissociative identity disorder does not react to the same medications used in the treatment of schizophrenia (Priya Siva, 2013). Traumas, during the early stages of human life span development are amongst the causes responsible for a dissociative identity disorder (Macintosh, 2013). Most of the individualââ¬â¢s affected, suffered repeated physical or sexual abuse during childhood, were neglected and or even abandoned (Macintosh, 2013). In serious cases, many of these children were abused during rituals in sects or cultââ¬â¢s (Macintosh, 2013). Major trauma experienced
Shame by Dick Greogry free essay sample
Charley Duvaal March 7, 2013 word count: 1643 Psychological Effects of Poverty The psychological effects of poverty on children are embarrassment and public humiliations of dealing with poverty. Imagine going to school without breakfast, much sleep and clothes that may still be wet from the night before since they didnââ¬â¢t dry due to a lack of appropriate appliances. Many people face these hardships everyday and they learn to cope with them in the best way they can. In the short story ââ¬Å"Shame by Dick Gregory, he writes about him life and how he went through those same things as a kid growing up in poverty. He clearly shows that poverty brings much privation as well as a great deal of shame. However, there are still ways to gain pride and happiness. This story shows that by emulating somebody you respect, even a very poor person can derive pride from small actions, which the average person sees as insignificant. They have to deal with being put in a stereotype for ââ¬Å"poorâ⬠or ââ¬Å"lower incomeâ⬠people. The psychological effects of poverty on children are the lowering of self-esteem, being isolated, and becoming determined. So what is it exactly that creates a rift between children from low income homes and those living above the poverty line? For one, these children lack the stability that comes with a higher income home. This means not having the things that other children have, from adequate nutrition to weather appropriate clothing. In addition, less income generally means there are fewer opportunities for activities and learning experiences. Gregory tells of his shame of living in poverty, and having only one set of clothes and a jacket that welfare gave to all the poor children. Gregory writes, ââ¬Å"There was shame in wearing the brown and orange and white plaid mackinaw the welfare gave to 3,000 boys. Why did it have to be the same for everybody so when you walked down the street the people could see you were on relief? â⬠(194). He is expressing how inadequate he felt compared to children from higher means. He saw that they were able to afford nicer things. Children face monumental hardships in our country because of poverty or the condition of not possessing the means to afford basic human needs. Children are under a lot of pressure in todayââ¬â¢s society to excel in everything they do: from school to sports. Being a child in poverty adds even more stress that can ultimately be detrimental to a child. Poverty causes a rift in children who live above the poverty line and those below the poverty line. In general, children from homes living under the poverty line have poorer performance in school. Emotional development is lower in poverty children than those children who live in homes whose income is above the poverty line. In the short story, Shame, Richard is a poor boy without a father, living in the ghetto. However, there is a girl at school named Helene that he is in love with. Unlike Richard, Helene is well off, wears clean clothes, and is very smart in school. Richard tries very hard to be like Helene. He melts the ice water from the grocery store so he should be able to wash his clothes for the next day of school. The only reason he goes to school is for her. Everyone else condemns his behavior. Nobody understands that the reason why he does not function like everyone else was because when he gets up in the morning he does not have breakfast. Nobody realizes that he is just another boy who wants to be recognized and seen as just a normal kid like everyone else. They do not comprehend how hard he is trying to accomplish that. While everybody else is having fun after school, he is shining shoes just to get a little change so he could get by. When the day comes that the kids pledge their fathers money to the Community Chest, naturally Richard wants to match Helenes pledge. However, when Richard gets up to match Helenes amount, the teacher becomes upset at Richard. She said, firstly, that the money is for him and his kind, and therefore, if he is able to give, he has no reason to be receiving relief. Secondly, she said that he did not even have a daddy. The story shows many different aspects in which poor people suffer, and also things that they may derive pride from that we do not understand. It also shows that the emotions that they show and actions that they do, regardless of how weird or unimportant they seem, may provide great relief and happiness to a poor person. Growing up in poverty can take a toll on anyone; not having money can affect the biggest of people, and the smallest, black or white, male or female. Many people living in poverty have to deal with the stereo-types and there are many of those. Dick Gregory writes in his essay ââ¬Å"The teacher thought I was a troublemaker. All she saw from the front of the room was a little black boy who squirmed in his idiotââ¬â¢s seat and made noises and poked the kids around him. I guess she could not see a kid who made noises because he wanted someone to know he was thereâ⬠(192). This excerpt from his story describes the stereo-types of stereo-types, assuming that this little boy is a bad seed because of his color and financial background. Many emotional aspects are damaged in life because of many reasons, being poor can have a damaging result on your Self- Respect. People tormenting you, teasing you, making you feel unworthy, and unwelcome, unappreciated can ruin your self- esteem, making you feel exactly what they said you are. Gregory writes about a man in his story, a wino, which was living in poverty as well. The old man was hungry, went to a restaurant and to eat, and when it was time to pay he had no money. Gregory writes ââ¬Å"The old wino sat down at the counter and ordered twenty-six cents worth of food. He ate it like he really enjoyed it. When the owner, Mister Williams, asked him to pay the check, the old wino didnââ¬â¢t lie or go through his pocket like he suddenly found a hole. He just said: ââ¬Å"Donââ¬â¢t have no money. â⬠The owner yelled: ââ¬Å"Why in hell you come in here and eat my food if you donââ¬â¢t have no money? That food cost me money. Mister Williams jumped over the counter and knocked the wino off his stool and beat him over the head with a pop bottle. The he stepped back and watched the wino bleed. Then he kicked him, and kicked him againâ⬠(195). Gregory made it strongly clear that this man had lost all self respect for him self, to just let the owner rag on him, and beat him. Poverty can make you feel worthless and like you do not deserve respect from anyone. Poverty can affect anyone; I have dealt with poverty first hand. When I was in eighth grade I went on a mission trip with my church to New Orleans. It was right after hurricane Katrina had hit and everything was destroyed. Damage estimated was in the tens of billions of dollars. At least one million people in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama were without electrical power, and it took weeks to fully restore service to all affected regions. Clean drinking water was scarce, and the flood waters were covering city streets that were contaminated with gas from ruptured gas lines, chemicals and human waste, raising a serious danger of infectious disease. Poverty affected almost every single person in New Orleans. It was a heartbreaking trip but I was glad to be able to help people rebuild their houses and help them start new lives. I have also dealt with shame and how it can also make you feel worthless. I personally felt sad when I read parts in ââ¬Å"Shameâ⬠about his teacher embarrassing him. This reminded me of a time when I was in elementary school. One day, in my fourth grade class, my teacher, Miss Brooks, called on me to give the answer to a geography problem the class was working on. Although I was not afraid to speak out in class, most of the class was having problems with this particular problem, so I was not too confident I had the right answer. However, I gave the answer I had anyway, and it turned out to be wrong. At first, I was not too upset, but almost immediately, Mrs. Brooks began to laugh, and then the whole class started to laugh. I felt so sad and embarrassed that I almost fainted and fell out of my chair. I always remember that day as one of the saddest days of my life. These are just a few examples of how poor people can get pride and happiness from small actions that we do not understand. Also, we see how they can sometimes be misunderstood when they do these actions. In general, we should try to be more yielding and considerate of such people. We should see ourselves in these situations and try to understand. In conclusion, many children are in need of our attention. The best we can offer them is positive remarks and acknowledgment. Whatever we tell them stays in their memory for a long time and would affect their thought processes. As seen in the ââ¬Å"Shameâ⬠essay, the child felt humiliated by the teacherââ¬â¢s criticism. That criticism made him realize how different he really is.

Cash used by the financing activity has also got reduced by 98 % and it clearly tells that company has not paid any borrowing in year 2015 (Annual report: Woodside Energy Limited, 2015). Recommendations The company financial condition has been declined in the year 2015 as evaluated from reviewing its financial statements. The company is provided following recommendations for raising its financial performance in the future. In this context, the company is regarded to create strategic fit between its aims and objectives and the financial resources available. This can be attained by the company by prioritizing its value chain activities and eliminating the non-value adding activity from its supply chain. This will largely prove to be beneficial for the company in reducing its operational cost and maximizing its effectiveness. The companys profitability has been largely negatively impacted by the downfall in the international oil and gas sector in the year 2015 (Stice, Stice, and Swain, 2007). As such, it needs to implement effective strategies for minimizing its operational cost for maximizing its performance. Thus, aligning the companys strategic objectives with the financial resource s would enable it to lower down its cost of goods produced thereby enhancing its profitability. In addition to this, as analyzed from the financial statements review of the company it incorporates larger debt proportion in the capital structure as compared to that of issuing equity shares. This is not a positive sign for the companys growth in the future context as it will increase its financial leverage. The increase in financial leverage can impact the companys ability to cover up its debt obligations in case of occurrence of any contingency condition. In this direction, the company is recommended to increase shareholders equity and reduce debt obligations in developing the capital structure. This will help the company to reduce the business risk and thus improve its profitability position. The companys reserves and retained earnings are also not increasing as analyzed from its financial statements review. This can prove to be harmful for the company to meet its debt obligations in the future context. The company is thus recommended to implement strong measures for improving its reserves and retained earnings. Conclusion The overall discussion held in the report inferred that Woodside Energy Limited financial performance is declining recently. The main reason responsible for the decrease in share prices of the company is reduced profitability of oil and gas sector on an international level. This is impacting the companys performance as well causing a strong decline in its profitability as can be seen from its financial statements of the year 2015. The company is thus recommended to take effective steps in the report for improving its financial performance in future context. On the basis of the financial position analyzed, it can be stated that investors should not buy the shares as its profitability position is predicted to decline in the future. This can be seen from the negative growth trend of oil and gas sector internationally that will cause a decline in the profitability position of Woodside Energy Limited. The main aim of developing the report is fulfilled by reviewing the different items of t he financial statement of the company so that its performance can be assessed and economic decision can be drawn. Financial statements analysis has provided all the information regarding the financial position, changes in equity, performance and cash generated by the company. All these details would prove to be largely beneficial for the investors to make the opinion on investment decision and act as proper guide to them. References Adams, D. 2006. Oriental Art Essays - Chinese Pottery, Ceramic Art, Ceramics
Oriental Art Oriental art is very distinct from other parts of the world. In their sculptures they still used such materials as clay, wood, and bronzes. However there art work promoted such things as goodness in nature, serenity, graceful balance, spiritual perfection, and a mystical harmony within themselves. There work avoided confusion, conflict and violent emotions at all costs. New or unprecedented experiments in their art work was never welcomed, and the expression of nobility and inner worth where demanded. Ultimately oriental art was said to be a way of being, but to understand this you must look at the words of the great Chinese philosopher Confucius who said Raise yourself to the beautiful. However not all Oriental art is the same, and to see the difference and the influences of their art you need to look at the areas of China, Japan, and Korea. The Neolithic inhabitants of China were energetic in their pottery, and where the first to practice this art, in which China has remained supreme in until recent times. Not very much is known about the earliest Chinese craftsman or the society that produced them, other than the fact that they lived in pounded earth settlements in northern Honan, Shangtung, and Kansu. These early craftsman created fine pottery, and especially beautiful vessels for funerals which where used for food and other provisions for the dead. These craftsmen where taught to honor the five rulers who had taught their forefathers how to raise silk worms, catch fish, domesticate animals, plow, reap and use the wheel for transportation and for throwing pottery. The Shang people came into history half way through the second millennium B.C., these people also lived in pounded earth settlements, and made funeral vessels. These people established the li which was the basic metallic shape used in their bronzes. Not only was the li used, but also other shapes have been discovered. In recent excavations, thousands of different vessels have been found, however it is possible to distinguish about forty basic shapes of the vessels. Each vessel served a different purpose in sacrifice or funeral ceremonies. Some where used for wine and water, some for storing foods, while others where used for cooking meats. The Shang dynasty have left some sculptures as original and different as there bronzes. However none of the large statue survived excavations. The importance of the excavations cannot be overemphasized. Who would have imagined an ancient culture so rich that they actually created stone sculptures, wheel made pottery, carved jade, and bronzes, which have never been surpassed. Too often when people speak of Oriental art they think that both China and Japan developed in the same way and the same time. This statement however is false, and the Japanese art did not start till several years after Chinese art did. The first forms of Japanese art can be looked at through the Jomon people, who where nomadic hunters and fishers. A number of human figurines and fertility gods have been found, also vessels made by the coiled clay method. The name Jomon, actually means coiled rope. The figures made by these people seem to be very imaginative, and possibly inspired by a fear in supernatural forces. The figures where made to be viewed only from the front, and although there where simply molded, some did have very elaborate decorations. When contacts with Asia and China where made, the style of Buddhist art was developed. This new form inspired sculptors and painters to have totally new viewpoints on their art. The Korean society was extremely influenced by Chinese culture. This did not stop Korean artists and craftsman from making their own original and distinct contributions to the world of art. In an expedition in 1909 many tombs where unearthed. In them they found mirrors weapons, lacquer objects, pottery, and ritual jades. Most of these items however where said to be from China and this proved the close contacts between the two countries. The Great Silla period was the first and most interesting periods of Korean art. Things that where found during this period of time where openwork metal ornaments, jewelry, images and pendants, which where meant to word off evil spirits. Pottery was also very popular during

The KGB essays During the Cold War not much was known about the activities of the Russian state security organization by western intelligence agencies. However after the collapse of the Soviet Union, documents that have been smuggled out by KGB agents (Wilson 1) have allowed agents to see just how much this agency knew and how far the Soviets managed to penetrate into western society. The question is where the KGB operations during the Cold War successful or not? Before the KGB, there was the Vecheka or Cheka, which was started on December 20, 1917 (Crozier 11). The Bolshevik leader Vladimir Lenin created the Cheka, so they would be able to combat counter revolutionary forces in Russia after the Bolsheviks took power. The man who was chosen to lead the organization was Felix Dzerzhinky, also known as Iron Felix, from Poland (11). Not long after the Cheka was founded, it sent a newspaper publisher, Aleksei Filippov, into Finland. Under cover as a journalist, he was sent on various intelligence assignments. True and False Ranges
True and False Ranges True and False Ranges True and False Ranges By Maeve Maddox The combination fromto is often used to express a range of extremes, for example, ââ¬Å"the prices ranged from $1 to $20.â⬠A ââ¬Å"true rangeâ⬠requires a set of objects, persons, topics, or attributes in a limited set. Here are examples of the words fromto used to express measurable ranges: McDowell Mountain Regional Park has more than 50 miles of hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding trails, ranging from easy to strenuous and ranging from 0.5 mile to 15.4 miles.à Childhood is theà ageà spanà rangingà from birth to adolescence. [Carpenter ants] are large ants ranging in size from one-quarter inch for a worker ant to up to three-quarters inch for a queen. The course in novel writing covered everything from outlining to publication. Birth injuriesà range from mild to severe. A ââ¬Å"false rangeâ⬠links disparate items that do not belong in any kind of mutual set. For example: The topics will range from current events in the world and community, to self-expression and topics chosen by the students.à The movie has everything fromà comedy to love.à Free shipping on everything from handbags to jewelry [My list of favorites] has everything from Catholic High School Girls in Trouble to Zinc Oxide and You to A Fistful of Yen. Galileos offers everything from luscious wines to generous portions of your favorite Italian inspired food.à Festival has everything from a cake decorating to crocheted peanuts to jousting Such use of false ranges is ubiquitous. The usage rarely causes confusion in the reader, but it does reflect lazy thinking. Avoiding false ranges is easy. If you are not writing about the extremes of a setââ¬âlike money or ages, or steps in a processââ¬âdonââ¬â¢t use the word range or the phrase ââ¬Å"everything fromtoâ⬠Instead, use other words or expressions: The topics will encompass current events in the world and community, self-expression, and additional subjects chosen by the students.à The movie includes comedy and a love story.à Free shipping on all products. [My list of favorites] includes Catholic High School Girls in Trouble, Zinc Oxide and You, and A Fistful of Yen. Galileos offers luscious wines and generous portions of your favorite Italian-inspired food.à Festival features a variety of competitions that include cake decorating, peanut crocheting, and jousting. Note: The error of the false range is especially jarring when it contains more than two items: ââ¬Å"[Joeââ¬â¢s Place] offers everything fromà pizza to rack of lamb, to potato pancakes, to meatloaf.â⬠Want to improve your English in five minutes a day?
